Transgenerational effects of parental crude oil exposure on the morphology of adult Fundulus grandis

Chelsea Hess et al.

Summary: This study exposed adult F0 Gulf killifish to Macondo-252 oil and examined the effects on swimming performance and morphology in two generations of offspring. The results showed that progeny of oil-exposed males had lower swimming speeds and altered body shape. Maternal oil exposure had a lesser impact on shape.

Effects of endocrine disrupting chemicals on gonad development: Mechanistic insights from fish and mammals

G. Delbes et al.

Summary: Endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDCs) have been found to impact reproductive health, with early exposures during critical developmental stages having immediate effects on gonadal and reproductive tract development, as well as potential long-term effects on reproductive health in both males and females. Understanding the mechanisms regulating sex determination, differentiation, and gonadal development in fish and rodents has improved our understanding of how EDCs affect reproduction.

Effects of dietary 2-(2H-benzotriazol-2-yl)-4-methylphenol (UV-P) exposure on Japanese medaka (Oryzias latipes) in a short-term reproduction assay

Kaden K. Fujita et al.

Summary: This study assessed the effects of benzotriazole ultraviolet stabilizers (BZT-UVs) on the reproductive success of Japanese medaka. The results showed that dietary exposure to BZT-UVs at concentrations as low as 634 ng/g food did not significantly impact the reproductive performance of Japanese medaka, but it could potentially affect steroidogenesis.

BPA's transgenerational disturbance to transcription of ovarian steroidogenic genes in rare minnow Gobiocypris rarus via DNA and histone methylation

Long Zhu et al.

Summary: The research found that parental exposure to BPA negatively affects offspring ovarian development by reducing the number of mature oocytes and affecting the expression of steroidogenic genes. However, the adverse effects of parental BPA exposure on offspring are reversible.

Effects of the brominated flame retardant, TBCO, on development of zebrafish (Danio rerio) embryos

Darren Van Essen et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of TBCO on early life-stages of zebrafish, showing increased mortality, decreased heart rate, and abnormalities in spinal curvature and swim bladder inflation. The mechanisms behind these effects were found to not be related to oxidative stress or activation of cytochrome p4501a. Further research is needed to fully understand the mechanisms of TBCO's adverse effects.

The brominated flame retardant, TBCO, impairs oocyte maturation in zebrafish (Danio rerio)

Darren Van Essen et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of the brominated flame retardant TBCO on oocyte maturation in zebrafish, suggesting impaired oocyte maturation as a potential mechanism for reduced reproductive performance in TBCO-exposed fish. The findings also indicated that the effects of TBCO on oocyte maturation may be due to molecular perturbations on insulin-like growth factor signaling and expression of microRNAs.
