Recent advances of zeolites in catalytic oxidations of volatile organic compounds

Juan Zhang et al.

Summary: Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) pose a serious threat to human health and the environment due to their volatile, toxic, and diffusive nature. The use of catalytic oxidation strategies has shown high efficiency in VOCs treatment. Zeolites have emerged as efficient catalysts for the complete oxidation of VOCs due to their unique structures and excellent properties, which is facilitated by increasingly stringent emission regulations. This review provides an overview of the progresses and developments in the design of zeolite-based catalysts for VOCs oxidation in recent decades, highlighting the important features of zeolites in catalytic performances. It is believed that this review will aid in the future design of efficient catalysts for VOCs catalytic oxidations.

Interaction of tetrahydrofuran and methyl tert-butyl ether in waste gas treatment by a biotrickling filter bioaugmented with Piscinibacter caeni MQ-18 and Pseudomonas oleovorans DT4

Hao-Yang Liu et al.

Summary: The bioaugmented biotrickling filter showed improved startup performance for treating gaseous mixtures of THF and MTBE, with a shorter startup period and enhanced removal efficiency. The control group exhibited stronger inhibition of MTBE biodegradation by THF, while MTBE had a positive impact on the biodegradation of THF.

Treatment of mixed waste-gas containing H2S, dichloromethane and tetrahydrofuran by a multi-layer biotrickling filter

Juping You et al.

Summary: Biotrickling filter can be used for the abatement of volatile inorganic compounds (VICs) and volatile organic compounds (VOCs) simultaneously. A multi-layer biotrickling filter (MLBTF) system effectively controls pH and microbial community, enhancing the removal performance of VICs and VOCs.

Biotrickling filter for the removal of volatile sulfur compounds from sewers: A review

Hao Bu et al.

Summary: This study reviews the mechanisms and performance of biotrickling filter (BTF) for the removal of volatile sulfur compounds (VSCs) in sewers, discussing key influencing factors and proposing measures to improve the removal efficiency. The review also assesses the challenges of BTF for sewer emissions treatment, particularly in terms of greenhouse gases (GHG) removal.

Mechanism of Zn(II) enhanced biodegradation of m-dichlorobenzene

Qingqing Shang et al.

Summary: This study used Zn(II) as a biological growth promoter to enhance the degradation of M-dichlorobenzene in a biotrickling filter (BTF). The results showed that Zn(II) promoted the growth of the strain and led to increased enzyme activity, polysaccharide, and protein content in BTF2, while decreasing the zeta potential. The changes in zeta potential suggested an electrostatic interaction between extracellular polymeric substance (EPS) and Zn(II).
