Groundwater Geochemistry and its Impacts on Groundwater Arsenic Enrichment, Variation, and Health Risks in Yongning County, Yinchuan Plain of Northwest China

Miaojun Wei et al.

Summary: The main water chemical type in the study area is SO4·Cl-Ca·Mg, followed by HCO3-Ca·Mg type, with rock weathering being the main process influencing the water chemical characteristics. The content of arsenic in groundwater is lower in the dry season and higher in the wet season, with relatively small differences in areas with intense surface water percolation.

Ozonation of organic compounds in water and wastewater: A critical review

Sungeun Lim et al.

Summary: Ozonation has a long history in water treatment and has been used for disinfection and oxidation of pollutants. In recent years, it has been increasingly applied for enhanced municipal wastewater treatment and water reuse. The research on ozonation has contributed to a better understanding of the removal efficiency of organic contaminants and the formation of transformation products.

Efficient Degradation of Organoarsenic by UV/Chlorine Treatment: Kinetics, Mechanism, Enhanced Arsenic Removal, and Cytotoxicity

Tao Yang et al.

Summary: ROX can be efficiently degraded by UV/chlorine, with the highest degradation rate at pH 7.5, and over 98% of total As can be removed by ferrous after UV/chlorine treatment; cytotoxicity significantly increases during the degradation of ROX, but can be greatly reduced by the combination of UV/chlorine and adsorption.

Adsorption and desorption of phenylarsonic acid compounds on metal oxide and hydroxide, and clay minerals

Xiande Xie et al.

Summary: The study shows that soil minerals play a key role in the adsorption of phenylarsonic acid compounds, while organic matter has a strong inhibitory effect. This finding can help in understanding and predicting the transport and fate of p-ASA/ROX in surface soils with low organic matter content.

Oxidant-reactive carbonous moieties in dissolved organic matter: Selective quantification by oxidative titration using chlorine dioxide and ozone

Joanna Houska et al.

Summary: A novel selective oxidative titration approach based on reaction kinetics of oxidation reactions towards certain DOM moieties was introduced to determine oxidant-reactive phenolic components. The method provides a promising tool for understanding oxidant reactive structures within complex mixtures such as DOM in drinking water and wastewater treatment.

Key structural features that determine the selectivity of UV/acetylacetone for the degradation of aromatic pollutants when compared to UV/H2O2

Guoyang Zhang et al.

Summary: This study found that acetylacetone is an effective photo-activator for dye decolorization under UV/AA, with molecular size and stability determining the efficiency of UV/H2O2 for dye degradation. The UV/AA process is more selective and effective than the UV/H2O2 process for dye degradation.

Mechanistic Investigation of Enhanced Photoreactivity of Dissolved Organic Matter after Chlorination

Dong Wan et al.

Summary: The study found that chlorine disinfection significantly reduces the aromaticity, electron-donating capacity, and average molecular weight of DOM, leading to an increase in the photoproduction activity of DOM after chlorination. The quantum yields of reactive species produced by chlorinated DOM under sunlight irradiation are positively correlated with the absorbance ratio and negatively correlated with the electron-donating capacity. Overall, chlorine disinfection has a synergistic effect on the photosensitization of DOM, which aids in the removal of trace pollutants in surface waters.
