Stretchable and Durable Inverse Vulcanized Polymers with Chemical and Thermal Recycling

Peiyao Yan et al.

Summary: Inverse vulcanized polymer materials have attracted attention due to their use of sulfur as a starting material, and their unique structure makes them suitable for applications such as infrared imaging, energy storage, and heavy metal capture. However, synthesizing flexible sulfur polymers with high strength, high elongation, and high toughness remains a challenge. This study successfully synthesized cross-linked sulfur polymers with high tensile elongation and toughness, and demonstrated their solvent tolerance. The chemical and thermal recycling performance of these materials was also retained.

Use of naturally small molecule as an intelligent interfacial modifier for strengthening and toughening silica-filled rubber composite

Senmao Yu et al.

Summary: The incorporation of interfacial modifiers is necessary to optimize the properties of silica-filled rubber composites. This study reported the use of thioctic acid as an intelligent interfacial modifier for silica-filled styrene-butadiene rubber composite. The interaction between thioctic acid and silica through hydrogen bonds and the generation of sulfur radicals bridged the silica and SBR matrix, resulting in improved silica dispersion and hydrogen bond-mediated interface. The TA-modified composites exhibited simultaneously improved strength, modulus, toughness and tear strength due to the reversible energy-dissipating mechanism of the hydrogen bond-mediated interfaces.

Adamantane imine as a seminal interfacial mediator toward rubber/carbon black composites with superior energy-saving capability and aging resistance

Shifeng Fang et al.

Summary: In this study, a novel interfacial mediator DADI was synthesized to improve the adhesion between rubber and carbon black, and enhance the dispersion of carbon black. The results showed that DADI can capture the radicals generated from the scission of rubber chains and transfer them to the energy traps on the surface of carbon black, thereby improving the performance of the composites.
