Plant flavonoids: Classification, distribution, biosynthesis, and antioxidant activity

Nan Shen et al.

Summary: Flavonoids are natural polyphenol substances abundant in various plant-based foods. They have significant biological activities in both plants and humans, such as antioxidant, antimicrobial, and anti-inflammatory effects. However, research on their distribution, biosynthesis, and health benefits remains limited. Future opportunities in flavonoid research include biotechnology, therapeutic phytoproducts, and exploring dietary flavonoid bioavailability.

Isolation and identification of polyphenol monomers from celery leaves and their structure-antioxidant activity relationship

Chaoting Wen et al.

Summary: This study isolated, purified, and identified phenols from celery leaves and evaluated their antioxidant activities. A total of seven polyphenol monomers were identified, and chrysoeriol 7-O-glucoside was identified for the first time. The polyphenol monomers exhibited significant DPPH· and ABTS+· scavenging capacities. The position and quantity of hydroxyl groups on the B-ring and the methylation degree of 3-OH played a crucial role in regulating antioxidant activities.

HPLC-ESI-MSn Analysis and Validation of UV-Vis and RP-HPLC-PDA Methods for Polyphenols Quantification from Hymenaea eriogyne

Camylla Janiele Lucas Tenorio et al.

Summary: The validation of analytical methods for the quantification of chemical markers of Hymenaea eriogyne Benth., Fabaceae is important for standardized extracts and improving herbal medicine quality. The optimal conditions for extraction were determined to be turbo extraction and a 10% (w/v) acetone-water (7:3; v/v) mixture. HPLC-ESI-MSn analysis identified phenolic compounds, primarily flavonoids. The validated methods demonstrated robustness and accuracy for quantifying compounds from H. eriogyne.
