Drug-loading three-dimensional scaffolds based on hydroxyapatite-sodium alginate for bone regeneration

Tingting Liang et al.

Summary: Bone tissue engineering is a promising approach to address clinical challenges, and in this study a composite hydrogel scaffold incorporating hydroxyapatite and sodium alginate was fabricated using three-dimensional printing. Osteogenic factors naringin and calcitonin-gene-related peptide were used in the construction of drug-loaded scaffolds. Animal experiments and cell testing showed that the HA/SA/NG and HA/SA/CGRP scaffolds exhibited superior osteogenesis compared to the HA/SA scaffold, suggesting potential applications in bone regeneration and enhanced proliferation and differentiation with NG and CGRP doping.

Piwi-interacting RNAs (piRNAs) as potential biomarkers and therapeutic targets for cardiovascular diseases

Min Li et al.

Summary: Piwi-interacting RNAs (piRNAs) are a novel cluster of small non-coding RNAs that have been found to be widely expressed in human tissues and potentially regulate various diseases, including cardiovascular diseases (CVDs). However, the molecular mechanisms and signaling pathways involved with piRNA function have not been fully elucidated. Further research is needed to explore the potential applications of piRNAs in the clinical diagnosis, prognosis, and therapeutic strategies for heart diseases.

STAT3 activation by catalpol promotes osteogenesis-angiogenesis coupling, thus accelerating osteoporotic bone repair

Liang Chen et al.

Summary: The study found that catalpol can enhance the osteogenic ability of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells and promote BMSC-mediated angiogenesis by activating the JAK2/STAT3 signaling pathway. This suggests that catalpol may be an ideal therapeutic agent for the clinical treatment of osteoporotic bone fractures.

Naringin-inlaid silk fibroin/hydroxyapatite scaffold enhances human umbilical cord-derived mesenchymal stem cell-based bone regeneration

Zhi-Hu Zhao et al.

Summary: This study developed a naringin-inlaid composite scaffold for repairing bone defects with superior osteogenic and angiogenic activities compared to other scaffolds. Through gene microarray and in vitro experiments, it was found that naringin facilitated mesenchymal stem cell growth and osteogenic differentiation, enhancing the potential of the NG/SF/HAp scaffold for bone regeneration.
