Coarse-grained CFD-DEM modelling of dense gas-solid reacting flow

Shuai Wang et al.

Summary: A coarse-grained CFD-DEM model is developed to simulate dense gas-solid reacting flow, which significantly reduces computational costs. This research is important for simulating dense gas-solid reacting flow in chemical reactors.

Self-Propelled Initiative Collision at Microelectrodes with Vertically Mobile Micromotors

Ziyi Guo et al.

Summary: Impact experiments enable single particle analysis. This study investigates the effect of particle motion on impact signals by studying micromotors with controllable vertical motion. Four representative patterns of dynamic interactions between the micromotors and electrode are identified using numerical simulations. This research sheds light on the design of new electrochemical sensors.

CFD-DEM model study of gas-solid flow in a spout fluidized bed with an umbrella-like baffle

Yuanhe Yue et al.

Summary: This paper identifies a new flow regime in a rectangular spout fluidized bed by applying an umbrella-like baffle, and studies it using the CFD-DEM approach. The new flow regime features multi-stage spouting, with first spouting and second spouting. The study explores the robustness, mixing efficiency, and formation mechanism of the multi-stage spouting pattern, showing improved efficiency and dynamic balance between the two spouts.

CFD-DEM modelling of raceway dynamics and coke combustion in an ironmaking blast furnace

Shuai Wang et al.

Summary: A CFD-DEM reacting model with thermochemical sub-models was developed to study gas-solid reacting flow in an ironmaking blast furnace. Simulation results indicated significant impacts of key operating parameters on raceway evolution, affecting cavity depth and CO production.

CFD-DEM study of segregation and mixing characteristics under a bi-disperse solid-liquid fluidised bed

Zhouzun Xie et al.

Summary: In this study, a recent smoothed CFD-DEM model is used to investigate segregation and mixing behaviors in a bi-disperse solid-liquid fluidized bed with different superficial liquid velocities and wide size ratios. Results show that the mixing index effectively quantifies segregation degree, with circulation motion of particles and liquid confirmed in the transition zone, and hydrodynamics and collision being the main underlying mechanism of segregation behavior in the bi-disperse SLFB.

Model study of carbonisation of low rank coal briquettes: Effect of briquettes shape

Yuting Zhuo et al.

Summary: An integrated numerical model was developed to investigate the effect of briquette shape on carbonisation performance of low rank coal briquettes. Simulation results showed that briquettes with different shapes exhibited different packing statuses during carbonisation, with half-ellipsoidal briquettes demonstrating the best carbonisation performance.
