Scale-up effect of residence time distribution of polydisperse particles in continuously operated multiple-chamber fluidized beds

Bin Lan et al.

Summary: The study found that the pressure drop and particle residence time distribution in a laboratory scale fluidized bed can be reasonably predicted; the mean residence time of particles linearly scales with bed length under different solid feed rates; the mean residence time of particles can be inferred from CFD simulations and the mass fraction of particles at the inlet.

Kinetic theory of polydisperse gas-solid flow: Navier-Stokes transport coefficients

Bidan Zhao et al.

Summary: This study establishes the hydrodynamic equations and constitutive relations of the multifluid model for polydisperse systems using species kinetic theory, providing explicit expressions for the constitutive laws including particle stress tensor, solid-solid drag force, heat flux, and energy dissipation rate up to the Navier-Stokes order. The research aims to offer a more complete and mathematically rigorous constitutive laws for the multifluid modeling of polydisperse gas-solid flows by analytically solving collision integrals without any approximations.

Kinetic theory models for granular mixtures with unequal granular temperature. Derivation of analytical constitutive equations

Jannike Solsvik et al.

Summary: The study focuses on the kinetic theory of granular mixtures, examining granular temperature, particle velocity distribution, and constitutive equations resulting from collisions. It is found that some existing approximate solutions are inaccurate, while others may provide good approximations. Additionally, a review of balance laws and constitutive relations from mono- and poly-disperse kinetic granular flow model frameworks is conducted.

Kinetic theory models for granular mixtures with unequal granular temperature: Hydrodynamic velocity

Jannike Solsvik et al.

Summary: The kinetic theory for granular mixtures considers a separate granular temperature for each solid phase, with particle phases assumed to follow a Maxwellian distribution and a zero-order approximation of the Boltzmann equation. A solution strategy is presented for solving the integrals of the collisional closure relations, allowing for the consideration of solid particle hydrodynamic velocities in the distribution function. However, the strategy limits the validity of the closure relations to relatively small and moderate hydrodynamic velocity differences, which can significantly differ from simplified models traditionally neglecting such differences.
