Insights into the binding manners of an Fe doped MOF-808 in high-performance adsorption: a case of antimony adsorption

Baihe Sun et al.

Summary: In this study, a series of bimetallic MOFs were prepared, with the optimal material showing superb adsorption capacities and carboxyl and hydroxyl groups identified as the main adsorption sites. The role of iron in the adsorption process was further explored through DFT simulations, and the bimetallic MOF demonstrated good application potential and recyclability.

Transformation of nanoscale zero-valent iron with antimony: Effects of the Sb spatial configuration

Tianhang Gu et al.

Summary: The spatial configuration of antimony complexes has a significant impact on the removal rate, with Sb(III) showing a higher reaction rate constant than Sb(V). The rate-limiting step is identified as Fe-O bond cleavage, with Sb(OH)3 favoring this process with lower energy barrier compared to Sb(OH)6. These findings suggest a new perspective on nZVI reactions with oxyanions like arsenic and selenium, highlighting the importance of complex spatial configurations in metal(loid) separation.

A one step synthesis of hybrid Fe/Ni-rGO using green tea extract for the removal of mixed contaminants

Chao Xue et al.

Summary: The study prepared hybrid bimetallic Fe/Ni nanoparticles and Fe/Ni-rGO via green synthesis using green tea extract, and evaluated their efficiency in removing RIF and Pb(II) from aqueous solution. Fe/Ni-rGO showed better removal performance than individual materials, with removal efficiencies of 87.5% and 96.8% for Pb(II) and RIF, respectively. The mechanism of removal involved chemical adsorption onto the surface and catalytic reduction by nFe/Ni particles.

Removal of low Sb(V) concentrations from mining wastewater using zeolitic imidazolate framework-8

Wenpeng Li et al.

Summary: The study demonstrated the successful removal of trace levels of Sb(V) from mining wastewater using ZIF-8, a specific type of Metal Organic Frameworks (MOFs). The adsorption process followed the Langmuir adsorption isotherm with pseudo second-order kinetics, and ZIF-8 remained structurally stable even after repeated use. The proposed removal mechanism involved complexation of zinc with Sb(V) on ZIF-8, showing potential for practical removal of antimony pollution in mining wastewaters.

Hongzhen Ran et al.

Summary: This study investigated the sources and spatial distribution of metal(loid)s in soil at an abandoned arsenic mine site, revealing that arsenic, mercury, and antimony were the main pollutants from mining activities. Different metals had different sources, with mining activities being a significant source for arsenic, mercury, and antimony.
