ZIF-8 derived Fe-N coordination moieties anchored carbon nanocubes for efficient peroxymonosulfate activation via non-radical pathways: Role of FeNx sites

Jingjing He et al.

Summary: This work developed novel carbon nanocubes (xFe-N-C) with abundant FeNx sites, showing excellent activity for phenol degradation by activating peroxymonosulfate (PMS). The catalytic system exhibited good recycling performance, wide pH adaptation, and high resistance to environmental interference, with singlet oxygen (O-1(2)) dominating the phenol degradation process. The introduction of FeNx sites regulated the electronic structure of the catalysts, enhancing the catalytic activity through the generation of highly reactive O-1(2) for rapid phenol oxidation.

Yi Hu et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that the pyrolysis temperature can influence the efficiency of passion fruit shell derived biochar (PFSC) for activating peroxymonosulfate (PMS) to degrade tetracycline hydrochloride (TC), with the PFSC-900/PMS system showing high catalytic performance mainly due to the non-free radical reaction pathway. This research not only showcases biochar as an efficient catalyst for PMS activation, but also provides a value-added reuse pathway for passion fruit shells.

Nanoarchitectured porous carbons derived from ZIFs toward highly sensitive and selective QCM sensor for hazardous aromatic vapors

Nagy L. Torad et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates the preparation of various nanoporous carbons by carbothermal treatment of ZIF crystals under different gas atmospheres, and investigates their sensitivity and selectivity towards volatile aromatic compounds. The growth of hairy graphitic-like CNTs on the surface of CNT-rich NPCs acts as highly selective sensing antennae for the discrimination of toxic aromatic hydrocarbons. Despite increased selectivity, the sacrifice of surface area in CNT-rich NPCs derived from certain ZIFs limits their potential applications in gas sensing.

Summary: Zinc (Zn) and nitrogen (N) co-doped ZIF-8 derived hollow carbon (ZHC) is reported as a promising separator coating for lithium-sulfur batteries (LSBs) to control the shuttle effect. The presence of Zn and N in the nanohollow carbon structure helps mitigate polysulfide (PS) diffusion in LSBs, while the hollow interior of the carbon acts as a PS pocket to physically capture the PS. The ZHC shows promising performance with higher initial specific capacity and cycling stability compared to the parent ZIF-8.
