Structural Confinement for Cr3+ Activators toward Efficient Near-Infrared Phosphors with Suppressed Concentration Quenching

Fangyi Zhao et al.

Summary: Trivalent chromium ion-doped near-infrared (NIR) phosphors have been widely studied for their tunable emission wavelengths and broad applications. The efficient NIR phosphors with suppressed concentration quenching exhibit a broadband NIR emission and monotonously increasing emission intensities with Cr3+ content, showing potential for various applications. The optimal sample demonstrates high internal/external quantum efficiency and is suitable for LED applications in nondestructive examination and medical fields.

Broadband near-infrared phosphor BaMgAl10O17:Cr3+ realized by crystallographic site engineering

Li You et al.

Summary: The research shows that the site engineering can achieve unusual broadband NIR emission in BaMgAl10O17:Cr3+ (BAM:Cr3+), with emission maximum and spectral bandwidth being tailored by controlling the site occupancy of Cr3+ on different Al sites. The optimal phosphor exhibits both a sharp line spectrum and a broadband emission, with an internal quantum efficiency of around 94%. A prototype NIR light source combining a blue laser diode with BAM:Cr3+ phosphor-in-glass (PiG) demonstrates an NIR light output power of 3.4 mW when driven by a 100 mW blue laser diode.

Doped lanthanum cerate pyrochlore for multicolor luminescent phosphor: Decisive role of energy transfer and defects

Santosh K. Gupta et al.

Summary: Efficient luminescent material design requires understanding of energy transfer, defect evolution, and dopant local structure. This study investigated concentration-dependent energy transfer, defect evolution, and local structure of europium ion in La2Ce2O7 pyrochlore material. The findings suggest that europium ion concentration affects the structural stability, oxygen vacancies, and emission properties of the material. This research highlights the importance of dopant site, HSET, excitation photon, and defects in designing color-tunable luminescent materials for phosphor-converted LEDs.
