MOF-derived strategy to obtain CuCoOx functionalized HO-BN: A novel design to enhance the toughness, fire safety and heat resistance of bismaleimide resin

Yifan Zhou et al.

Summary: In this study, a new type of nano-hybrid was obtained by generating copper-cobalt metal oxide on the surface of hydroxylated boron nitride using the MOF-derived strategy. The nano-hybrid was then dispersed in bismaleimide resin, leading to a strong interface interaction. The addition of the nano-hybrid effectively suppressed fire hazard and toxic smoke release, while also improving impact strength and glass transition temperature, expanding the potential application in extreme environments.

Bifunctional linear polyphosphazene decorated by allyl groups: Synthesis and application as efficient flame-retardant and toughening agent of bismaleimide

Xia Zhou et al.

Summary: A novel allyl-functionalized linear polyphosphazene (PMAP) was designed and synthesized to improve the toughness and fire safety of bismaleimide resin (BMI). The inclusion of 3wt% PMAP reduced the peak heat release rate (PHRR) and total smoke production (TSP) of BMI/PMAP-3 by 51.3% and 17.8% respectively. The residual char of BMI/PMAP also increased significantly. The flame-retardant mechanism of BMI/PMAP was proposed to involve the formation of a char layer in the condensed phase and the generation of phosphorous oxygen free radicals in the gas phase.
