Transformation of Covalent Organic Frameworks from N-Acylhydrazone to Oxadiazole Linkages for Smooth Electron Transfer in Photocatalysis

Shuailong Yang et al.

Summary: Covalent organic frameworks (COFs) are promising platforms for solar-to-chemical energy conversion. However, their poor chemical stability and weak optoelectronic properties need to be improved. In this study, a simple post-treatment method was used to enhance the stability and photophysical properties of a COF, leading to improved photocatalytic hydrogen evolution efficiency.

Effective Recovery of Au from Low-Concentration Solutions by a Self-Synthesized Mesoporous Resin Modified by Dimethylamine

Wenping Xu et al.

Summary: This study systematically investigated the recovery of Au(III) from low-concentration HAuCl4 solutions using a self-synthesized dimethylamine-modified mesoporous resin (DMR). Experimental results showed that the DMR exhibited high adsorption capacity and recovery efficiency for Au(III) under specific conditions. The adsorption mechanism of Au(III) onto the DMR surface followed the Langmuir isotherm model and pseudo-first-order kinetics.

Turning Electronic Waste to Continuous-Flow Reactor Using Porous Aromatic Frameworks

Tingting Ma et al.

Summary: Extraction of gold from e-waste is a promising method for environmental remediation, but cost-ineffective for normal usages. Direct conversion of gold from e-waste to higher value materials is advantageous. In this study, a porous aromatic framework (PAF) called iPAF-7 was synthesized and demonstrated rapid extraction of gold from e-waste. An aerogel monolith incorporating iPAF-7 was also successfully fabricated, showing potential for continuous-flow catalysis.

Amorphous-to-Crystalline Transformation: General Synthesis of Hollow Structured Covalent Organic Frameworks with High Crystallinity

Zeshan Xiong et al.

Summary: This study reports a versatile and efficient strategy of amorphous-to-crystalline transformation for the fabrication of highly crystalline HCOFs. The approach allows for the control of hollowing process and crystallization process by regulating the dynamic imine exchange reaction. Various HCOFs with ultrahigh surface areas and uniform morphologies were successfully synthesized, and COF-based yolk-shell nanostructures with functional interior cores were also fabricated. The obtained metal@HCOFs catalysts showed enhanced catalytic activity and size-selectivity, highlighting the significance of nucleation-growth kinetics of COFs in tuning their morphologies, structures, and applications.

An Imidazole Thione-Modified Polyhedral Oligomeric Silsesquioxane for Selective Detection and Adsorptive Recovery of Au(III) from Aqueous Solutions

Zixu Chen et al.

Summary: A highly efficient dual-function material for simultaneous detection and recovery of gold ions (Au(III) was reported, with the ability to rapidly detect Au(III) with low limits of detection and efficiently capture gold ions with a maximum adsorption uptake. The mechanism study revealed that the redox reaction and coordination between imidazole thione and thioether groups and Au(III) were the main causes of the detection and adsorption behavior. The potential applications of this dual-function material for Au(III) detection and recovery from aqueous solutions were indicated, with the possibility of designing more dual-functional materials using this simple strategy.
