Shape memory effect in Na0.5Bi0.5TiO3-based ferroelectric ceramics

Pan Chen et al.

Summary: Shape memory materials are smart materials that can generate recoverable residual deformation, with shape memory ceramics being more suitable for extreme conditions. This study demonstrated the shape memory behavior of ferroelectric ceramics, showing that they are more suitable for SMC applications at medium stress levels due to their smaller critical stress compared to zirconia-based SMCs.

Polydopamine Nanoparticle-Reinforced Near-Infrared Light-Triggered Shape Memory Polycaprolactone-Polydopamine Polyurethane for Biomedical Implant Applications

Suyang Dai et al.

Summary: This study developed a new type of near-infrared light-triggered shape memory polyurethane using polydopamine nanoparticles. The polyurethane showed excellent mechanical properties and rapid shape recovery under near-infrared light due to the dispersion of polydopamine nanoparticles and the photothermal effect. In vitro and in vivo tests demonstrated the biocompatibility and shape memory performance of the polyurethane under low-intensity near-infrared light. This material has potential for biomedical implant applications.

Photoreversible Bond-Based Shape Memory Polyurethanes with Light-Induced Self-Healing, Recyclability, and 3D Fluorescence Encryption

Xiaochun Liu et al.

Summary: Developing a shape memory polyurethane with high mechanical properties and excellent self-healing is a challenging task in the field of smart materials. In this study, a shape memory polyurethane network terminated with coumarin units was designed and fabricated, showing exceptional mechanical performance and efficient self-healing capability. The network structure and light-induced dynamic reversibility enable the polyurethane to be remolded in liquid state and have plasticity in solid state, allowing for multiple recycling and processing. By combining photolithography, self-healing, and shape memory effect, a multilevel and multidimensional anti-counterfeiting platform with rewritable fluorescent patterns and reconfigurable shapes was achieved, which provides a new encryption approach for intelligent anti-counterfeiting in the future.

Light-induced charged slippery surfaces

Fang Wang et al.

Summary: Slippery lubricant-infused porous (SLIPS) and superhydrophobic surfaces have emerged as promising interfacial materials. We developed a class of slippery material that harnesses the dual advantages of both solid and lubricant by constructing a photothermal-responsive composite matrix with real-time light-induced surface charge regeneration capability. The resulting light-induced charged slippery surface (LICS) allows for photocontrol of droplets with fast speed, long distance, antigravity motion, and directionally collective motion. The LICS is further extended to biomedical domains for specific morphological hydrogel bead formation and biological diagnosis and analysis.

All-organic composites with strong photoelectric response over a wide spectral range

Jie Liu et al.

Summary: The synthesized HNAN and HNAN-NO2 compounds, when added to P(VDF-TrFE) ferroelectric polymer, exhibit high photoelectric response under visible and infrared light. The modification of HNAN by the nitro group, combined with poling of the composites under a high electric field, significantly enhances the photoelectric response. The composites can generate high photovoltages under near-infrared and green light irradiation, with the response originating mainly from the coupling effect of the photothermal effect of the Schiff base and the pyroelectric effect of the ferroelectric polymer.
