Carbon Fiber Surface Functional Landscapes: Nanoscale Topography and Property Distribution

Katarina Adstedt et al.

Summary: The surface topography of carbon fibers and their composites plays a crucial role in determining their ultimate properties. However, there is limited research on the nanoscale surface characteristics of carbon fibers and their relationship with chemical modification. In this study, high-resolution atomic force microscopy was used to investigate the nanoscale surface topography of modified carbon fibers, revealing the influence of tension and chemical functionalization on the surface characteristics and their impact on interfacial interactions.

Preparation and anti-icing performance of cross-linked polysiloxane coatings containing silicone oil

Jian Yuan et al.

Summary: A cross-linked polysiloxane coating with silicone oil was prepared using a simple mixing method, and its anti-icing performance was investigated. The results showed that the ice adhesion force on the coating was related to the cross-link density, with higher cross-link density resulting in lower ice adhesion force and better anti-icing performance. The addition of silicone oil further reduced the ice adhesion force, enhancing the anti-icing performance. Icing/deicing cycle tests demonstrated that the coating maintained efficient anti-icing performance after 30 cycles.

Flower-Shaped Ni/Co MOF with the Highest Adsorption Capacity for Reactive Dyes

Junjie Si et al.

Summary: This study used a metal-organic framework material (NCM) as an efficient adsorbent to treat reactive dyes in printing and dyeing wastewater. The adsorption capacities of NCM for reactive red 218 reached 200 mg.g(-1), and the adsorption process followed the Langmuir isotherm model and the pseudo-second-order kinetic model. The thermodynamic fitting indicated that the adsorption of reactive red 218 on NCM was spontaneous and accompanied by an endothermic reaction.

In Situ Generated UiO-66/Cotton Fabric Easily Recyclable for Reactive Dye Adsorption

Shuai Zhang et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates the efficient removal of reactive dyes from colored wastewater by loading extremely stable metal-organic framework material UiO-66 onto modified cotton fabric. The UiO-66/cotton fabric exhibited excellent adsorption performance, achieving equilibrium within a short time and showing a high removal rate for reactive dyes. The hydrophobicity of the reactive dyes was found to be correlated with their molecular weight, with higher molecular weight dyes more likely to adsorb on the adsorbent surface.

Self-Restructuring of Polyhydromethylsiloxanes by the Hydride Transfer Process: A New Approach to the Cross-Linking of Polysiloxanes and to the Fabrication of Thin Polysiloxane Coatings

Urszula Mizerska et al.

Summary: The branching and cross-linking of siloxane polymers play vital roles in silicone technology. A new self-restructuring process has been developed, which transforms linear polyhydromethylsiloxane (PHMS) into highly branched siloxane polymer or cross-linked siloxane network through hydride ion transfer between silicon atoms catalyzed by tris(pentafluoromethyl)borane. Unlike existing reactions, this process operates at room temperature without the need for a low-molecular-weight cross-linker, water, silanol groups, or metal catalysts. The study of this process was conducted in toluene solution, tracking its progress through various techniques. A proposed mechanism based on quantum calculations supports this new self-restructuring process, and it has been demonstrated that a linear PHMS can serve as a precursor for pure methylsiloxane film.

Colorful superhydrophobic concrete coating

Kun Xu et al.

Summary: The colorful and robust superhydrophobic concrete (CSC) coating has a water contact angle of 158 +/- 0.5 degrees and a sliding angle of 5 +/- 0.8 degrees. It is composed of cement, sand, water-based stone protector, and dyes for concrete coloring. Its high robustness comes from the high adhesive force between the coating and the substrate, the inherent high hardness of concrete itself, and self-similarity of inside micro-structures. The CSC coating also exhibits excellent chemical durability and weather resistance.
