Confining platinum clusters in ZIF-8-derived porous N-doped carbon arrays for high-performance hydrogen evolution reaction

Xuefang Chen et al.

Summary: Exploring efficient electrocatalysts for hydrogen evolution reaction is crucial for the sustainable application of hydrogen fuel. Platinum-based electrocatalysts are limited by scarcity, expensive price, poor stability, and inferior durability. The constructed CTA@Pt@NCBs structure exhibits low overpotential, excellent stability, high atom utilization efficiency, and improved cost-effectiveness for platinum-based catalysts.

Role of Ferroelectric In2Se3 in Polysulfide Shuttling and Charging/ Discharging Kinetics in Lithium/Sodium-Sulfur Batteries

Hao Yuan et al.

Summary: In this study, two-dimensional ferroelectric In2Se3 was investigated as a promising additive to overcome polysulfide shuttling and sluggish kinetics in sulfur cathodes. The findings show that In2Se3 has modest adsorption strength to soluble polysulfides, reduces energy barriers, and enables control of battery performance through ferroelectric switching, thus potentially enhancing Li-S and Na-S battery performance.

Activated Proton Storage in Molybdenum Selenide through Electronegativity Regulation

Xingyu Zhao et al.

Summary: This study presents a simple method to enhance the specific capacity of MoSe2 by incorporating oxygen. Experimental results show that oxygen-incorporated MoSe2 undergoes proton-dominated insertion electrochemistry during cycling. Theoretical calculations demonstrate that the introduction of oxygen effectively reduces the binding energy of adsorbing H+ and modifies charge distribution in the interlayer, promoting H+ adsorption and diffusion, and thus significantly increasing the specific capacity of MoSe2. This study provides an effective strategy to improve the kinetics of TMDs and achieve high-performance aqueous zinc-based batteries.

Molybdenum chalcogenides based anode materials for alkali metal ions batteries: Beyond lithium ion batteries

Yanli Zhou et al.

Summary: Sodium and potassium ions batteries (SIBs, PIBs) have attracted wide concerns as the ideal substitutes for lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) used in large-scale energy storage, thanks to their similar working principle to LIBs, rich abundance, and low cost. However, the shortage of suitable anode materials poses a key challenge in the field of Na+/K+ storage. Molybdenum chalcogenides have drawn great attention as anode materials for SIBs/PIBs due to their special electronic/crystal structures and high specific capacities. However, their volumetric fluctuation and low electrical conductivity are the main obstacles that hinder their performance.

An insight into the effect of g-C3N4 support on the enhanced performance of ZnS nanoparticles as anode material for lithium-ion and sodium-ion batteries

Dipa D. Pathak et al.

Summary: This manuscript investigates the impact of adding graphitic carbon nitride on the electrochemical properties of ZnS conversion alloying anode, revealing a cooperative phenomenon and high capacity in ZnS/g-C3N4 composite anodes. The enhanced rate capability of the 0.7ZnS:0.3g-C3N4 electrode is attributed to capacitive charge storage and mitigation of volume alteration effect during Li+/Na+ ions shuttling in ZnS. The presence of g-C3N4 leads to high reversible capacity and initial coulombic efficiency in the composite anodes, as confirmed by ex-situ X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy analysis.
