Cobalt-nickel bimetallic sulfide (NiS2/CoS2) based dual-carbon framework for super sodium ion storage

Qixiang Deng et al.

Summary: Designing hybrid metal sulfide-based anode materials is an effective method to enhance the performance of sodium-ion batteries (SIBs). However, the capacity of sulfide-based anodes decreases significantly due to volume expansion during charge/discharge processes. In this study, concaved NiS2@CoS2 nano-cubes (NCSC) were successfully prepared through chemical etching of Ni-Co coordination polymers (NiCoCP) precursor. The obtained NCSC anode materials exhibited a high specific sodium storage capacity of 848 mAh g-1 at 0.1 A g-1 and a stable cyclability of 572 mAh g-1 at 5 A g-1 after 830 cycles. This unique etching strategy provides a novel approach for the design and fabrication of high-performance anode materials for SIBs.

Layered MnO2 nanodots as high-rate and stable cathode materials for aqueous zinc-ion storage

Heng Tang et al.

Summary: In this study, novel layered MnO2 nanodots were synthesized and utilized as the cathode material for aqueous zinc-ion batteries/hybrid capacitors (ZIBs/ZICs) for the first time. The delta-MnO2 NDs displayed high specific capacity, impressive rate capacity, large specific energy, and superior durability. The H+/Zn2+ co-insertion energy storage mechanism of the cathode was also verified. The quantization design strategy provides a new approach for the design and development of advanced cathodes for aqueous ZIBs and ZICs.

Design strategy for MXene and metal chalcogenides/oxides hybrids for supercapacitors, secondary batteries and electro/photocatalysis

Xinlong Liu et al.

Summary: MXenes, as newly discovered 2D materials since 2011, show great potential in energy storage and conversion due to their exceptional electrical conductivity, large surface areas, variety in composition, and flexibility. Hybridizing MXene with functional materials can prevent restacking and introduce synergistic functionalities. This review comprehensively discusses the application of MXene/transition metal chalcogenide (TMC) or MXene/transition metal oxide (TMO) hybrids in supercapacitors, secondary batteries, and electrocatalysis.

Ammonium ion pre-intercalation stabilized tunnel h-WO3 for fast NH4+ storage

Qiang Chen et al.

Summary: This study reports a pre-intercalated non-metal ion stabilized tunnel h-WO3 anode for fast NH4+ storage, and a matching alpha-MnO2 cathode, constituting a novel ammonium-ion hybrid supercapacitor. First-principles calculations and ex situ characterization reveal that intercalated NH4+ is accompanied by the formation/breaking of hydrogen bonds, which effectively enhances NH4+ adsorption and reduces NH4+ diffusion barrier.

Summary: This report presents a structural optimization method for Ni2Fe(CN)(6) by substituting nickel with sodium and investigates the electrochemical performance of Na2xNi2-xFe(CN)(6) (x = 0, 0.25, 0.5, 0.75, and 1) materials. The results show that partial substitution of nickel with sodium enhances the operating potential, and Na1.5Ni1.25Fe(CN)(6) exhibits better cycling performance. Additionally, the study explores the ammonium-storage mechanism of Na1.5Ni1.25Fe(CN)(6) through ex situ XRD and FTIR analysis.
