On-Site Supramolecular Adhesion to Wet and Soft Surfaces via Solvent Exchange

Changyong Cai et al.

Summary: A series of poly(thioctic acid-catechol)s were prepared by supramolecular copolymerization of thioctic acid (TA) and catechol (CA). The addition of a small amount of CA molecules significantly improved the adhesion ability of poly(TA) and transformed it into an applicable supramolecular polymer adhesive material. On-site supramolecular adhesion to wet and soft substrates was successfully realized through the solvent exchange behavior between water and the poly(TA-CA)s ethanol solution, demonstrating better adhesion performance than the hot-melt method in the presence of water.

Integration of hydrogen bonding interaction and Schiff-base chemistry toward self-healing, anti-freezing, and conductive elastomer

Chuanwei Lu et al.

Summary: In this study, a class of elastomers with self-healing, anti-freezing, and conductive properties was prepared based on polymerizable deep eutectic solvents (PDES) through multiple hydrogen bonding and Schiff-base chemistry. The elastomers exhibited improved mechanical properties and excellent self-healing efficiency of 92.1% with a dynamic dual-crosslinked network. The conductive elastomers also showed anti-freezing capabilities and flexibility at -50 degrees C, making them promising for applications in strain sensors and wearable devices.

Superior Low-Temperature Reversible Adhesion Based on Bio-Inspired Microfibrillar Adhesives Fabricated by Phenyl Containing Polydimethylsiloxane Elastomers

Shuang Xia et al.

Summary: The study proposes microfibrillar adhesives fabricated from phenyl-containing polydimethylsiloxane elastomers with superior low-temperature reversible adhesion, maintaining adhesion strength as low as -120 degrees C. Compared to pure PDMS microfibrillar adhesives, p-PDMS microfibrillar adhesives demonstrate better performance due to sustainable conformal contact and even distribution of loads. This new fabrication strategy provides insights for practical applications of microfibrillar adhesives.
