A novel P/Ni-doped g-C3N4 nanosheets for improving mechanical, thermal and flame-retardant properties of acrylonitrile-butadienestyrene resin

Jiahao Ren et al.

Summary: The widespread use of highly flammable ABS resin poses a great fire threat to humans and the environment. However, current flame retardants often sacrifice mechanical and thermal properties while improving flame retardancy. In this study, a novel phosphorus and nickel co-doped graphitic carbon nitride nanoflakes were developed to address this trade-off. The addition of the new material significantly improved the thermal and mechanical properties of ABS composite, resulting in excellent anti-ignition, flame-retardant, and smoke-suppressive performances. This research provides a new design strategy for fabricating fire-safe polymer composites with superior properties.

Tailor-Engineered 2D Cocatalysts: Harnessing Electron-Hole Redox Center of 2D g-C3N4 Photocatalysts toward Solar-to-Chemical Conversion and Environmental Purification

Grayson Zhi Sheng Ling et al.

Summary: Solar photocatalysis using metal-free graphitic carbon nitride (g-C3N4) is an appealing technique for sustainable energy generation and pollution-free environment. However, the low-dimensional structure of g-C3N4 hinders its performance due to slow reaction kinetics and rapid recombination of photogenerated carriers. This review focuses on the engineering of 2D cocatalysts to improve the efficiency and stability of g-C3n4, and provides insights into the charge dynamics and structure-performance relationship.

Summary: Photocatalytic conversion of CO2 to high-value products is crucial for achieving a carbon-neutral economy. Isotype heterojunctions, such as the one formed by g-C3N4, have been found to have significantly higher efficiency in spatial separation and transfer of photogenerated carriers compared to single components. This enhanced charge dynamics promotes the production of key intermediates and improves the overall reaction kinetics.

Summary: Biological CO2 fixation is the most effective method for large-scale CO2 reduction, accounting for the majority of CO2 fixed on Earth. Cell-free CO2 fixation systems offer an alternative approach, allowing independent control of the fixation rate. By designing an oxygen-insensitive, self-replenishing CO2 fixation system with opto-sensing, the researchers achieved a sustained CO2-fixing rate comparable to or greater than photosynthetic or lithoautotrophic organisms.

Efficient visible light driven degradation of antibiotic pollutants by oxygen-doped graphitic carbon nitride via the homogeneous supramolecular assembly of urea

Shihai Cao et al.

Summary: Graphitic carbon nitride (CN) is a promising photocatalyst for environmental treatment. In this study, oxygen-doped CN nano sheets (CNO) with porous structures were synthesized using a self-assembled approach. The formation process of CNO and the control of oxygen doping amount were investigated. The obtained CNO photocatalysts showed excellent visible-light photocatalytic performances and the degradation pathway of sulfamerazine (SMR) was proposed. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations revealed that oxygen doping changed the electronic structure of CN, making it easier to activate O2. This work provides a novel approach for the development of high-performance nonmetal photocatalysts.
