In-Situ diffuse reflectance spectroscopy analysis of Pd/CeO2-ZrO2 model three-way catalysts under Lean-Rich cycling condition

Ayumi Fujiwara et al.

Summary: This study investigated the redox behavior of Pd/CeO2-ZrO2 (Pd/CZ) model three-way catalysts through in situ diffuse reflectance spectroscopy, revealing a strong correlation between Pd oxidation rate and the presence of three-phase boundaries (TPB). The study found that TPB abundance plays a significant role in retarding Pd oxidation, with smaller particle sizes leading to more pronounced effects. The ratio of rate constants provides a useful index for estimating the deactivation of the catalyst due to thermal sintering.

Influence of exhaust gas temperature and air-fuel ratio on NOx aftertreatment performance of five large passenger cars

Zamir Mera et al.

Summary: This study analyzed real-world NOx emissions and found that some vehicles exceeded the Euro 6 limits. Vehicles equipped with SCR systems had emission factors only 1.0 times the limit, while HEVs had very low emissions at approximately 2 mg NOx km(-1). Cold start, urban driving, and cooling conditions of aftertreatment devices could lead to a decrease in NOx conversion efficiency.

Oxygen Exchange between Catalyst and Active Support during CO Oxidation on Rh/CeO2(111) and Rh/CeO2(110): Isotope Labeled 18O Study

Zdenek Rafaj et al.

Summary: Rhodium (Rh) is predominantly used in the automotive industry for three-way catalysis (TWC), with improved efficiency achieved by adding CeO2-active support for oxygen storage capacity. In this study, the CO oxidation mechanism of Rh nanoparticles on CeO2(111) and CeO2(110) was investigated, revealing higher performance on Rh/CeO2(110) due to weaker CO-Rh bond and increased oxygen exchange activity.

Distribution of Reaction Sites in SOFC Cathode through Oxygen Isotope Labeling with Three-Dimensional Microstructural Analysis

Tsuyoshi Nagasawa et al.

Summary: The distribution of electrochemical reaction sites in a composite cathode of a solid oxide fuel cell was investigated through active sites imaging by oxygen isotope labeling combined with three-dimensional microstructure observation. The study revealed the impact of the distribution of reaction sites on the calculated oxide ion flux and effective reaction thickness.
