Electrochemical performance and durability of flat-tube solid oxide electrolysis cells for H2O/CO2 co-electrolysis

Chengqiao Xi et al.

Summary: In this study, the co-electrolysis of H2O and CO2 using a flat-tube SOEC was investigated. The researchers found that increasing temperature and water content in the fuel gas improved the electrochemical performance of the SOEC. The co-electrolysis process remained stable for over 1000 hours at 750 degrees C with a constant current density of 300 mA cm(-2). The degradation mechanism of the SOEC was analyzed and discussed based on the observed microstructural changes.

Power Generation by Flat-Tube Solid Oxide Fuel Cells with Enhanced Internal Reforming of Methanol

Junkang Sang et al.

Summary: In this study, the performance and long-term durability of direct methanol flat-tube fuel cells were investigated under different steam/carbon ratios. It was found that the ratio had little influence on the cell performance but strongly affected the long-term stability. The addition of a catalyst promoted the methanol conversion rate and suppressed carbon deposition within the anode.

Effect of air addition to the air electrode on the stability and efficiency of carbon dioxide electrolysis by solid oxide cells

Anqi Wu et al.

Summary: This study investigates the effect of air addition to the air electrode on the long-term stability and efficiency of solid oxide cells for CO2 electrolysis. The results show that continuous purging of the air electrode is necessary to maintain a lower degradation rate and improve the performance of the cells. The degradation of the cells without continuous purging is mainly due to the increase in O2- exchange polarization impedance, while the degradation of the cells with air supplied to the air electrode is caused by the variation of ohmic impedance.

Study on the long-term discharge and redox stability of symmetric flat-tube solid oxide fuel cells

Jun Yang et al.

Summary: In this study, the stabilities of a newly developed symmetric flat-tube solid oxide fuel cells with double-sided cathodes (DSC cells) were investigated for long-term discharge and redox cycling operations. It was found that the duration time of the oxidation process was dominant for the stability of the cell. Additionally, exsolved Ni particles were observed in the large pores of the anode support layer after redox cycling tests with long duration time of oxidation, a phenomenon not reported in the literature.
