Facile preparation of pH/pectinase responsive microcapsules based on CaCO3 using fungicidal ionic liquid as a nucleating agent for sustainable disease

Zhiyuan Zhou et al.

Summary: Controlled release microcapsules of pesticides have the potential to improve utilization efficiency and reduce adverse effects. However, the complex preparation process and use of toxic additives limit their development. In this study, a simple and green method was developed to prepare double-shelled CaCO3 microcapsules of pesticide using a newly prepared ionic liquid as a nucleating agent. The microcapsules showed pectinase and pH responsive release properties, improved photostability compared to conventional pesticide formulations, and long-term efficacy against Sclerotinia sclerotiorum. The genotoxicity tests showed that the microcapsules reduced genotoxicity to plants compared to the conventional pesticide. These findings provide a new strategy for developing calcium carbonate-based microcapsules to increase the utilization efficiency of pesticides.

Effect of phosphate on peroxymonosulfate activation: Accelerating generation of sulfate radical and underlying mechanism

Pijun Duan et al.

Summary: The presence of phosphate was found to increase the effectiveness of PMS activation for pollutants removal in AOPs, promoting the generation of SO4 center dot- through efficient breaking of the O-O bond of PMS. The yields of SO4 center dot- were linearly dependent on phosphate concentration, while the yields of .OH remained constant.

Carbonized polyaniline activated peroxymonosulfate (PMS) for phenol degradation: Role of PMS adsorption and singlet oxygen generation

Shiqi Liu et al.

Summary: This study prepared high-efficient N-doped carbon materials by directly carbonizing polyaniline, which exhibited excellent catalytic performance in activating PMS for phenol degradation. In the CPANI-9/PMS system, PMS adsorption/activation was identified as the key step determining the reaction rate. The presence of different N species and functional groups on the carbon materials were found to be catalytic sites for the degradation reactions.

Sustainable redox processes induced by peroxymonosulfate and metal doping on amorphous manganese dioxide for nonradical degradation of water contaminants

Yangyang Yang et al.

Summary: The study found that copper-doped amorphous manganese oxide exhibited higher activity in organic oxidation reactions with peroxymonosulfate compared to crystalline manganese oxides, with more oxygen vacancies and a higher Mn4+/Mn3+ ratio, promoting reaction rates. This research provides new insights into the catalytic structure relationship in manganese-catalyzed oxidation reactions.

Heterogeneous activation of persulfate by carbon nanofiber supported Fe3O4@carbon composites for efficient ibuprofen degradation

Yang Zhang et al.

Summary: Heterogeneous catalysts for persulfate activation were synthesized using a one-pot hydrothermal method with ferrocene and carbon nanofiber as precursors. The catalysts exhibited high catalytic performances for ibuprofen degradation, with stable activity and minimal metal leaking over multiple cycles. Hydroxyl and sulfate radicals were identified as the main contributors to ibuprofen degradation, with the possible pathways elucidated through intermediate analysis.
