An A-site management and oxygen-deficient regulation strategy with a perovskite oxide electrocatalyst for the oxygen evolution reaction

Changhai Liu et al.

Summary: Perovskite oxides with different Sn-cation substitutions in the A-site were investigated for their electrocatalytic activity towards the oxygen evolution reaction (OER). The optimized La0.9Sn0.1NiO3-delta catalyst showed enhanced stability and activity for OER, lowering the overpotential compared to pristine LaNiO3. Density function theory calculations revealed that Sn substitution can improve the covalency between Ni 3d and O 2p, leading to improved OER performance. This work provides a promising strategy for designing and fabricating perovskite oxide electrocatalysts for OER.

Singlet oxygen and dioxygen bond cleavage in the aprotic lithium-oxygen battery

Shanmu Dong et al.

Summary: Investigation of lithium-oxygen cells on discharge revealed that Li2O2 formation occurs predominantly through disproportionation, and singlet oxygen O-1(2) generation mainly comes from the scrambling pathway. By controlling the pathway of this step, it may be possible to suppress O-1(2) formation, thereby prolonging the degradation of lithium-oxygen batteries.

Threshold potentials for fast kinetics during mediated redox catalysis of insulators in Li-O2 and Li-S batteries

Deqing Cao et al.

Summary: The redox potentials of mediators can be tuned to accelerate reaction kinetics, leading to efficient cycling of Li-S and Li-O-2 batteries. This acceleration is independent of the type of mediator and electrolyte and is achieved by activating the extraction step of lithium ions/electrons on specific surface facets.

Cesium Lead Bromide Perovskite-Based Lithium-Oxygen Batteries

Yin Zhou et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates the potential of cesium lead bromide perovskite (CsPbBr3) nanocrystals as a high-performance cathode for Li-O-2 batteries, achieving the lowest charge overpotential and best cycling performance among reported perovskite-based Li-O-2 cells, setting a new benchmark. The density functional theory (DFT) calculations further support that the rate-limiting step in the oxygen evolution reaction (OER) process is the decomposition of LiO2, and the weak adsorption strength between CsPbBr3 surfaces and LiO2 contributes to the low charge overpotential in CsPbBr3-based Li-O-2 batteries.
