Cyclometallated Iron(II) Alkoxides in Iron-Catalyzed C-H Activations by Weak O-Carbonyl Chelation

Antonis M. Messinis et al.

Summary: A detailed investigation of the C-H activation mechanism with an iron catalyst reveals an unexpected iron(II) alkoxide intermediate, which exhibits higher catalytic activity than previously reported species. Mechanistic studies provide evidence for an oxidative addition reaction and propose the isolated iron(II) alkoxide as a highly reactive precatalyst. These insights form the basis for further developments in iron-catalyzed C-H activation and stereoselective transformations.

Iron-Catalyzed Ortho C-H Homoallylation of Aromatic Ketones with Methylenecyclopropanes

Naoki Kimura et al.

Summary: A new method for the C-H homoallylation reaction of aromatic ketones with methylenecyclopropanes using a catalytic amount of Fe(PMe3)(4) was reported, yielding selectively ortho-homoallylated aromatic ketones through regioselective scission of the three-membered rings. The homoallylated products are suitable for further modifications, leading to functionalized 1,2-dihydronaphthalenes.

A Tutorial on Selectivity Determination in C(sp2)-H Oxidative Addition of Arenes by Transition Metal Complexes

Tyler P. Pabst et al.

Summary: This tutorial discusses the factors influencing selectivity in C(sp(2))-H activation and functionalization reactions, including thermodynamic and kinetic influences on regioselectivity. It also examines the mechanisms and energetics of chelate-assisted C(sp(2))-H oxidative addition, as well as chemoselectivity concepts related to aryl halide substrates.

Transient Directing Groups in Metal-Organic Cooperative Catalysis

Clement Jacob et al.

Summary: Direct functionalization of C-H bonds is a fundamental transformation in organic synthesis, often relying on directing groups for activation. The development of transient directing groups strategy has revolutionized C-H bond functionalization, allowing for direct and selective introduction of functional groups onto various substrates.

A Tutorial on Selectivity Determination in C(sp2)-H Oxidative Addition of Arenes by Transition Metal Complexes

Tyler P. Pabst et al.

Summary: This tutorial presents the factors determining selectivity in C-(sp(2))-H activation and functionalization reactions involving two-electron oxidative addition processes with transition metals. It discusses the interplay of thermodynamics and kinetic influences on regioselectivity, along with valuable experimental and computational results from the literature. Mechanisms and energetics of chelate-assisted C-(sp(2))-H oxidative addition are examined, as well as concepts related to chemoselectivity in the oxidative addition of C-(sp(2))-H or C-(sp(2))-X (X = F, Cl, Br, I) bonds with aryl halide substrates.
