Stepwise benzylic oxygenation via uranyl-photocatalysis

Deqing Hu et al.

Summary: Stepwise oxygenation at the benzylic position of aromatic molecules was achieved under ambient conditions via uranyl photocatalysis, producing carboxylic acids, ketones, and alcohols. The tunability of catalytic activity in uranyl photocatalysis, adjusted by solvents and additives, ensured the accuracy of the stepwise oxygenation. Hydrogen atom transfer between the benzylic position and the uranyl catalyst facilitated oxygenation, as confirmed by kinetic studies.

Site-Selective, Photocatalytic Vinylogous Amidation of Enones

Kitti Franciska Szabo et al.

Summary: In this study, a mild and efficient method for the synthesis of organic compounds with a gamma-aminocarbonyl motif was described. The photocatalytic vinylogous reaction of dienolates with N-amino pyridinium salts resulted in high-yielding and scalable gamma-amido carbonyl compounds.

Photochemical organocatalytic enantioselective radical γ-functionalization of α-branched enals

Matteo Balletti et al.

Summary: Reported in this study is a rare example of asymmetric catalytic functionalization of enals at the remote gamma-position through a radical pathway. This process utilizes the synergistic actions of two distinct organocatalysts and requires visible light irradiation.

Visible-Light-Induced 1,3-Aminopyridylation of [1.1.1]Propellane with N-Aminopyridinium Salts

Sanghoon Shin et al.

Summary: The formation of an electron donor-acceptor complex allowed for the direct installation of amino and pyridyl groups onto bicyclo[1.1.1]pentane (BCP) frameworks in the absence of an external photocatalyst. This method is robust and metal-free, enabling late-stage modification of structurally complex biorelevant molecules. The strategy also facilitates the incorporation of functional groups with pyridine across the BCP core, significantly expanding the range of potential applications for drug discovery.
