Compositionally Graded KNN-Based Multilayer Composite with Excellent Piezoelectric Temperature Stability

Ting Zheng et al.

Summary: A new concept of structural gradient is proposed to address the challenge of the inferior temperature stability of lead-free potassium sodium niobate (KNN)-based ceramics. By designing compositionally graded multilayer composites with multiple successive phase transitions, the structural gradient ceramics exhibit superior temperature reliability. The excellent temperature stability is attributed to the synergistic contribution of continuous phase transition, strain gradient, and the complementary effect of each constituent layer. These findings provide a new paradigm for functional material design with outstanding temperature stability.

Manipulating temperature stability in KNN-based ceramics via defect design

Ruichen Li et al.

Summary: The designed defect-engineering is proven to be an effective way to enhance properties in KNN-based ceramics. Introducing Fe element into different sites of KNN-based ceramics can form two types of defect dipoles, with B-site defect dipoles being more sensitive to electric field and temperature. The behavior of defect dipoles and nanodomain lead to preferable temperature stability in B-site engineered ceramics.

High-temperature and long-term stability of Ho-doped potassium sodium niobate-based multifunctional ceramics

Wei Li et al.

Summary: In this study, lead-free ceramics with excellent temperature stability, fatigue-free behavior, and photoluminescence properties were synthesized. Doping with Ho3+ induced crystal phase transition, increased T:O ratio, and maintained stable piezoelectric performance. The ceramics exhibited diffuse O-T phase transition under electric field, contributing to enhanced thermal stability, and demonstrated fatigue-free behavior regardless of temperature. The Ho-modified ceramics also showed strong green light emission upon visible light excitation, with polarization- and temperature-induced quenching behaviors observed, suggesting great potential for multifunctional device applications.
