Synthesis and photocatalytic activity of g-C3N4/ZnO composite microspheres under visible light exposure

Zhengyi Zhang et al.

Summary: In this research, a novel g-C3N4/ZnO composite microspheres (CZCM) with enhanced photocatalytic activity under visible light exposure were successfully prepared. A hierarchical structure in which ZnO microspheres were closely covered with g-C3N4 nanosheets was constructed to improve the photocatalytic performance. The optimized CZ-15% sample showed much higher photocatalytic degradation efficiency than bare g-C3N4 or ZnO. Photoluminescence and photocurrent analysis confirmed the effective generation of photo-induced electron-hole pairs and the photocatalysis in CZCM. The possible photocatalysis mechanism for the reaction process was proposed based on the experimental results and relative energy band levels of the two semiconductors.
