This study investigates the effect of TaSi2 on the oxidation resistance of a traditional YSZ/MCrAlY TBC. The results show that the formation of spinel above the thermally grown oxide in the TBC was reduced during prolonged oxidation in air and water vapor, causing more severe internal oxidation in air. This demonstrates that the YSZ/MCrAlY TBC has a better protective effect in air and water vapor, improving the service life of coatings in these environments.
Oxidation resistance is pivotal to the application of thermal barrier coating (TBC) composites in high temperature structural components. In this study, the effect of TaSi2 on the oxidation resistance of a traditional YSZ/MCrAlY TBC was investigated. The results show that during prolonged oxidation in air and water vapor, the formation of spinel above the thermally grown oxide in the TBC was reduced, causing the coating to undergo more severe internal oxidation in air. This demonstrates that the YSZ/MCrAlY TBC has a better protective effect in air and water vapor, which improves the service life of coatings in air and water vapor.
