Understanding the microstructure evolution mechanism and the microstructure-strength correlations of Ti3SiC2/Ti2AlNb joint brazed with AgCu interlayer

Bo Zhang et al.

Summary: The effect of brazing parameters on the microstructure of a Ti3SiC2 ceramic brazed joint with a Ti2AlNb alloy was investigated and the microstructure evolution mechanism of the joint was clarified through characterization of the interfacial reaction products. The unique crystal structure of Ti3SiC2 phase leads to the effortless de-intercalation of Si atoms and subsequent complex interfacial reactions. The brazing temperature has a significant influence on these reactions, with a maximum shear strength achieved at 860°C for 20 minutes.

Interfacial microstructure and mechanical properties of Ti3SiC2 ceramic and TC11 alloy joint diffusion bonded with a Cu interlayer

S. Y. Niu et al.

Summary: Reliable joints of Ti3SiC2 ceramic and TC11 alloy were diffusion bonded with a Cu interlayer, but the thickness of Ti5Si4 and TiSiCu layers at the interface should be controlled to avoid reduction of bonding strength. The maximum shear strength was achieved with diffusion bonding at 850 degrees C for 60 minutes.

Wax-wetting sponges for oil droplets recovery from frigid waters

P. Cherukupally et al.

Summary: A wax-wetting sponge was designed to efficiently recover oil droplets, especially in cases where low temperatures cause paraffin wax crystallization and high viscosity in crude oil. This sponge can effectively adsorb oil droplets from wastewater between 5 and 40 degrees Celsius, with the adsorbed oil being easily released upon rinsing with heptol.
