Design, fabrication and properties of lightweight wear lining refractories: A review

Lvping Fu et al.

Summary: The design of lightweight wear linings for industrial furnaces is crucial for energy and resource efficiency. This review provides a systematic overview of the properties, fabrication, and application of lightweight refractories, as well as outlining future research directions. Structural design and application efficiency are key factors to consider in the development of lightweight wear linings.

Effect of microporous magnesia aggregates on microstructure and properties of periclase-magnesium aluminate spinel castables

Junjie Yan et al.

Summary: This study found that the apparent porosity of aggregates had a significant impact on the properties of lightweight castables. Aggregates with an apparent porosity of 30.8% exhibited the best strength and performance combination. The presence of cracks and microcracks had a significant effect on the performance of the castables.

Microstructure and mechanical properties of lightweight Al2O3-C refractories using different carbon sources

Zhe Chen et al.

Summary: The study found that lightweight Al2O3-C refractories using microcrystalline graphite had more SiC whiskers in the microporous corundum aggregates, leading to improved crack resistance and increased cold modulus of rupture. Compared to the pricier flake graphite, they had similar apparent porosity and bulk density, but higher fracture energy and toughness.
