Quantifying the anomalous water absorption behavior of cement mortar in view of its physical sensitivity to water

Fangzhou Ren et al.

Summary: This study proposes a modified Richards equation to quantify anomalous water absorption into cement-based materials, taking into account the water sensitivity of C-S-H gels and time-decaying water permeability. Consistent experimental tests and calculations show that the modified Richards equation can quantitatively capture long-term absorption with two linear stages and a nonlinear transition stage between them.

Water sensitivity of cement-based materials

Chunsheng Zhou et al.

Summary: Cement-based materials are widely used in modern civilization, but there are long-standing controversies surrounding their fundamental water-related properties. The concept of water sensitivity in cement-based materials helps explain unexplained behaviors and validates its application in theoretical research and technological development.

Physical and chemical effects of isopropanol exchange in cement-based materials

Zhidong Zhang et al.

Summary: The study found that isopropanol (IPA) has some effects on the chemical components of cement-based materials, which can be reduced by shortening the exchange duration. Experimental results suggest that the exchange duration for microstructural studies can correspond to the time when 99% of the water at the sample center is replaced.
