Preparation of waste glass powder by different grinding methods and its utilization in cement-based materials

Yingbin Wang et al.

Summary: This study systematically evaluated the effect of waste glass powders on the properties of cement-based materials. It was found that the grinding condition significantly affected the milling efficiency and pozzolanic reactivity of glass powders. Glass powders with larger particle size and non-absorbent feature improved workability and early strength, while those with filling and acceleration effects enhanced early mechanical strength. Encouragingly, one method of glass powder fabrication showed high pozzolanic reactivity at 28 days, which is rarely reported.

Hydration and rheology of activated ultra-fine ground granulated blast furnace slag with carbide slag and anhydrous phosphogypsum

Yingbin Wang et al.

Summary: This study systematically investigated the hydration and rheological behavior of ultra-fine ground granulated blast furnace slag (activated-BFS) with carbide slag and anhydrous phosphogypsum (AG) as combined activators. The results showed that the type of BFS played a limiting role in setting time, and their rheological behavior fitted with H-B model.

Effect of combined activator of Ca(OH)2 and Na2CO3 on workability and compressive strength of alkali-activated ferronickel slag system

Zuwang Bian et al.

Summary: Utilizing a combined activator of Ca(OH)2 and Na2CO3, this study investigated the effect of combined activator content on the performance of alkali-activated ferronickel slag system. The workability decreases with the increase of Na2O equivalent, while compressive strength first increases and then decreases, with the optimal Na2O equivalent identified as 5%.

Effect of autogenous shrinkage on microcracking and mass transport properties of concrete containing supplementary cementitious materials

M. H. N. Yio et al.

Summary: The study found that concretes with supplementary cementitious materials, low water-to-binder ratio, and large maximum-aggregate-size have more microcracks, which negatively impact transport properties. Increasing aggregate size exacerbates the effects of microcracks on transport properties under the same conditions. The use of shrinkage reducing admixture effectively reduces these effects.

Research status of super sulfate cement

Qingyong Wu et al.

Summary: Super sulfate cement (SSC) is an ideal green building material made from industrial solid wastes, with good resistance to sulfate attack but poor resistance to carbonation, and its drawbacks include slow hydration hardening and low early strength. Despite the limitations, with increasing environmental requirements, research and use of SSC in concrete continue to grow in this century.

Activation mechanisms of three types of industrial by-product gypsums on steel slag-granulated blast furnace slag-based binders

Chengwen Xu et al.

Summary: This study focuses on the activation and hydration mechanisms of different types of industrial by-product gypsum on steel slag-granulated blast furnace slag based binders. Results showed that binder with desulphurisation ash (DA) had lower early strength and higher long-term strength, while desulphurisation gypsum (DG) and fluor gypsum (FG) contributed to the formation of C-S-H gels and ettringite, leading to strength improvements. Further studies are needed to explore the potential applications of DA and FG as alternative solid waste materials.
