Degradable collagen/sodium alginate/polyvinyl butyral high barrier coating with water/oil-resistant in a facile and effective approach

Xin Jing et al.

Summary: This study fabricated degradable coatings with high barrier, water-and oil-resistance using collagen fibers, sodium alginate, and polyvinyl butyral. The coatings were formed through electrostatic adsorption and crosslinking, and the barrier performance was further improved by coating with polyvinyl butyral solution. The composite exhibited excellent properties and has important applications in the food and packaging fields.

Superhydrophobic and deacidified cellulose/CaCO3-derived granular coating toward historic paper preservation

Xiaochun Ma et al.

Summary: A superhydrophobic self-cleaning coating, derived from nanocellulose coated with CaCO3 particles, is constructed for the preservation of historic paper via chemical vapor deposition (CVD) for the first time. The coating exhibits a static contact angle of more than 150 degrees and a minimum sliding angle of 6.4 degrees. It achieves deacidification with a desired pH value and provides the paper with self-cleaning function, which is significant for the protection of paper-based relics.

Cellulose nanofibrils (CNFs) produced by different mechanical methods to improve mechanical properties of recycled paper

Fugang Hu et al.

Summary: The morphology and length of cellulose nanofibers (CNFs) have a significant impact on their reinforcement effect in recycled paper, with higher aspect ratios leading to better reinforcement. CNFs produced by microfluidic homogenization and suitable PFI milling conditions showed the best reinforced effect, improving tensile index and burst index significantly. This study aimed to investigate the influence of CNFs on reinforcing recycled fibers.

Developing bagasse towards superhydrophobic coatings

Chengrong Qin et al.

Summary: The research introduces the preparation method and surface properties of bagasse-based superhydrophobic coatings. By spray-coating bagasse esters on different substrates, superhydrophobic surfaces were generated, showing anti-fouling and oil absorption performance. This study provides a new perspective for the design of bio-based superhydrophobic coatings.

Comparison of Effects of Sodium Chloride and Potassium Chloride on Spray Drying and Redispersion of Cellulose Nanofibrils Suspension

Guihua Yang et al.

Summary: KCl treatment leads to smaller droplets and better dispersion stability of CNF during spray drying, while NaCl treatment causes more agglomeration of CNF particles, resulting in poor dispersion stability. Therefore, KCl treatment is effective in reducing agglomeration during spray drying of CNF.

Analysis of the acid and alkali resistance of superhydrophobic paper mulch

Fangyuan Zhang et al.

Summary: The study investigated the preparation method of super-hydrophobic agricultural paper mulch and its performance changes in acidic and alkaline solutions. Results showed that the tensile strength and droplet bounce height of the paper mulch decreased after soaking in acid or alkaline solutions, but it still maintained good hydrophobic properties.
