Introducing a flexible drug delivery system based on poly(glycerol sebacate)-urethane and its nanocomposite: potential application in the prevention and treatment of oral diseases

Mahtab Tirgar et al.

Summary: A novel biopolymer and its nanocomposites were successfully synthesized using a facile approach, with a study on their microstructure and drug release process. The addition of 5% clay nanoparticles significantly increased the elastic modulus of the material, as confirmed by XRD results. Furthermore, the designed scaffold showed high flexibility, making it suitable for the treatment of periodontal disease.

Summary: A series of novel bio-polyester nanocomposites incorporating hydroxyapatite (HA) nanoparticles were prepared via in situ polymerization method, demonstrating good dispersibility and viscoelastic properties. The nanocomposites exhibited different thermal and degradation behaviors compared to the pristine sample. The presence of HA nanoparticles significantly influenced the hydrolytic degradation and cell attachment properties of the materials.

Summary: The study showed that differentiated hMSCs on PLLA-DH exhibited higher ALP enzyme activity and biomineralization, more intense von Kossa staining, and increased expression of osteogenic gene and protein markers. This suggests that the combination of PLLA scaffold with DH has the potential to develop a suitable matrix for bone tissue engineering applications.

Contact angle measurement on porous substrates: Effect of liquid absorption and drop size

Sarah Krainer et al.

Summary: The study comprehensively captures the impact of absorption rate, drop size, and residence time on contact angle measurement through the concept of relative absorbed drop volume. Regardless of drop size, absorption rate, and residence time, the contact angle decreases with each percentage point of drop volume penetrated into the substrate.
