Spatial and temporal patterns of Holocene precipitation change in the Iberian Peninsula

Liisa Ilvonen et al.

Summary: This study quantitatively reconstructs the precipitation trends in the Iberian Peninsula for the past 11,700 years using fossil pollen data and a regional pollen-climate calibration model. The results show that precipitation was high during the Early Holocene and gradually declined afterwards. In the Late Holocene, precipitation decreased in the south but remained high in the north. Overall, there are regional differences in precipitation patterns between the northern and southern parts of the peninsula.

Mid- to late Holocene environmental changes and human-environment interactions in the surroundings of La Silla del Papa, SW Spain

Simon M. May et al.

Summary: La Silla del Papa in southern Andalusia has been an important location for population movements, cultural exchanges, and trade from Late Prehistory to modern times. Through the Archeostraits project, geoarchaeological investigations have revealed different ecological conditions and human-environment interactions at different phases in this region.

Measuring, modelling and managing gully erosion at large scales: A state of the art

Matthias Vanmaercke et al.

Summary: Soil erosion, particularly through the formation and expansion of gullies, is a significant process of land degradation that is often overlooked in regional to continental scale policies and management strategies. Despite limited ability to assess and simulate gully erosion, progress has been made in monitoring, modeling, and managing gully erosion. Recommendations for further research and policy development are provided based on a review of scientific articles and policy documents.
