Baicalein ameliorates ulcerative colitis by improving intestinal epithelial barrier via AhR/IL-22 pathway in ILC3s

Summary: This study elucidates the molecular mechanisms underlying the protective effect of baicalein on intestinal barrier function in colitis mice, demonstrating that baicalein improves gut inflammation, reduces intestinal permeability, and restores tight junctions possibly via promoting AhR/IL-22 pathway. Co-administration of AhR antagonist CH223191 partially blocks the therapeutic effects of baicalein, while AhR agonist FICZ ameliorates symptoms and gut barrier function in colitis mice.

Regulatory role of short-chain fatty acids in inflammatory bowel disease

Summary: This article discusses the association between inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and dysbiosis of the gut microbiota, which leads to persistent immune response and inflammation. Short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs) derived from fiber-rich diet produced by probiotic gut bacteria have shown anti-inflammatory effects and can delay the progression of IBD. The modulation of innate immune recognition and cytokine production by SCFAs may intervene in the progression of IBD. More studies are needed to investigate the clinical impact of SCFA.

MGA treatment reduced retrogradation and viscosity of the starches, increased resistant starch content in NMS, and had limited influence on HAMS functionality.
