Fractal dimension and its variation of intact and compacted loess

Tao Xiao et al.

Summary: Fractal dimensions of intact and compacted loess were investigated through consolidated-drained triaxial tests and mercury intrusion porosimetry technique. Different models were used to determine the fractal dimensions of specimens, revealing variations in fractal dimensions at different stress-strain states. The roughness of pore surfaces increases with the growth of stress or strain, indicating an increase in complexity of pore structure with loess deformation.

Characterization of Coal Pore Structure and Matrix Compressibility by Water Vapor Injection

Haiqi Li et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the pore structure characteristics of low-rank coalbed methane (CBM) resources and proposes a new method of pore size classification. The relationship between pyrolysis temperature and matrix compressibility is also analyzed, highlighting the significant effect of transition pores on matrix compressibility.

Pore structure, fractal characteristics and permeability prediction of tight sandstones: A case study from Yanchang Formation, Ordos Basin, China

Wenchao Dou et al.

Summary: Several fractal models based on MIP have been proposed for studying the fractal property of porous materials, but results from different models may not always be consistent. By combining various analysis techniques to study the pore structure and petrophysical properties of tight sandstones, it was found that different MIP fractal models usually give different results.

Coal Pores: Methods, Types, and Characteristics

Pengwei Mou et al.

Summary: This study systematically investigated coal pore testing technologies and methods, pore classification methods, and coal pore structure characteristics. Different testing methods have limitations and there is a need for a comprehensive method for accurate quantitative characterization of closed pores in coal. In situ measurement of coal pores is a future research trend.

Heterogeneous evolution of pore structure during loess collapse: Insights from X-ray micro-computed tomography

B. Yu et al.

Summary: The pore structure plays a crucial role in influencing the hydraulic properties of loess. The study found that during collapse, constricted pores and free pores display different behaviors, with the former maintaining their sizes and shapes while the latter typically closing up. This research provides new insights into the pore structure evolution associated with loess collapse, emphasizing the importance of pore morphology in addition to pore size.
