Energy performance index of air distribution: Thermal utilization effectiveness

Sheng Zhang et al.

Summary: This study justifies the inadequacy of existing energy performance indices and proposes a new index called Thermal Utilization Effectiveness (TUE), which overcomes the drawbacks of the existing indices and is considered a reasonable and competent energy performance index of air distribution. TUE qualitatively and quantitatively distinguishes the energy performance of air distribution by considering the relative contributions of the occupied and unoccupied zones.

Study on the relationship between thermal comfort and S-IgE based on short-term exposure to temperature

Xiaoxia Zhang et al.

Summary: This study investigates the link between temperature-induced comfort and salivary secretory immunoglobulin E (S-IgE), a biomarker used to assess respiratory mucosal immunity. The findings suggest that the highest S-IgE concentration occurs at a temperature close to the thermal neutral temperature and that prolonged exposure to cold and heat can increase S-IgE concentration, potentially enhancing respiratory mucosal immunity.

The effect of climatic conditions on occupants' thermal comfort in naturally ventilated nursing homes

Maria Teresa Baquero Larriva et al.

Summary: The paper analyzes the influence of climatic conditions on the thermal comfort of occupants (elderly people, caregivers, and therapists) in naturally ventilated nursing homes. The study collects data from 18 nursing homes in three different climatic zones. The results show that the perception of thermal comfort varies in different climates, and outdoor temperature and humidity play a significant role. This research has important implications for the design and operation of nursing homes in different climates.

How the coldest local thermal sensation affects overall thermal sensation after turning on the air conditioning-Evidence from chamber experiments

Yiwen Jian et al.

Summary: The study found that the foot had the coldest sensation and the largest skin temperature change, influencing the overall thermal sensation (OTS) significantly. The impact of the foot's LTS on the OTS depended greatly on the air conditioner set point temperature and duration. When the set point temperature was below 26 degrees C, the OTS quickly approached and surpassed the foot's LTS, while above 26 degrees C, the approaching speed reduced significantly. The time-varying and temperature-varying characteristics of the relationship between the OTS and the foot's LTS provided new insights into air conditioner use behavior in split air conditioner buildings.

Demand response and other demand side management techniques for district heating: A review

Elisa Guelpa et al.

Summary: This paper is the first survey on the use of demand side application in district heating networks, clarifying the terminology and implementation stages. Demand side management is considered as a great technique for district heating management, achieving benefits such as peak shaving, doubled load factor, and reduction of primary energy needs.
