Efficacy of chestnut and quebracho wood extracts to control Salmonella in poultry

N. A. Casanova et al.

Summary: The study evaluated the antibacterial activity of chestnut and quebracho wood extracts against Salmonella and found that they can inhibit the adhesion and invasion of Salmonella in cells. In vivo trials showed a significant reduction in SE excretion in poultry treated with quebracho extract and a decrease in mortality in hens treated with chestnut extract. This study suggests that these natural products could be effective in controlling Salmonella in poultry production.

Recent Evolution and Genomic Profile of Salmonella enterica Serovar Heidelberg Isolates from Poultry Flocks in Brazil

Diessy Kipper et al.

Summary: The study assessed the population structure, recent temporal evolution, and important genetic characteristics of multidrug-resistant Salmonella enterica serovar Heidelberg isolated from Brazilian poultry farms, revealing a monophyletic group with antibiotic resistance genes and virulence factors. This lineage poses a threat to Brazilian and global poultry operations.

Molecular Characterization and Survive Abilities of Salmonella Heidelberg Strains of Poultry Origin in Brazil

Roberta T. Melo et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the genotypic and phenotypic characteristics of 20 strains of S. Heidelberg isolated from broilers in southern Brazil, revealing these strains as a threat to public health due to their virulence, antimicrobial resistance, and biofilm formation. The strains showed multidrug-resistant profiles, formed biofilms at different temperatures with chicken juice, and had genetic determinants for resistance to certain antibiotics. Monitoring of virulence, resistance, and biofilm determinants is essential for controlling infections and maintaining bacteria in production environments.
