Integrated proteomics and transcriptome analysis reveal a decreased catechins metabolism in variegated tea leaves

Mengqian Lu et al.

Summary: A variegated tea plant with ecologically insensitive leaves and abnormally developed chloroplasts was identified in Huangshan, China. RNA sequencing and proteomic analysis showed that chlorophyll biosynthesis and degradation, photosynthesis, chloroplast development, and flavonoid biosynthesis in the variegated leaves were affected. The lower chlorophyll content in variegated leaves may be attributed to chloroplast structure destruction, with down-regulated expression of flavonoid biosynthesis-related genes and reduced target protein content.

Flue-cured tobacco (Nicotiana tabacum L.) leaf quality can be improved by grafting with potassium-efficient rootstock

Wei Hu et al.

Summary: The study found that grafting different tobacco strains can significantly improve tobacco leaf quality by increasing leaf maturity and K content, enhancing accumulation rates and commercial quality. This provides a feasible approach for producing high-quality flue-cured tobacco.

SmFLS negatively regulates peel coloring of eggplant (Solanum melongena) under high temperature

Ling Ling Lv et al.

Summary: The SmFLS gene was cloned from eggplant and found to negatively regulate eggplant peel coloration under high temperature. Overexpression of SmFLS in eggplant significantly increased flavonol content and resulted in lighter peel color.

Extensive transcriptome changes underlying the fruit skin colour intensity variation in purple eggplant

Xiaohui Zhou et al.

Summary: Variation in fruit skin color intensity of purple eggplant involves accumulation of anthocyanins and chlorophylls, and comparative transcriptome analysis revealed differential gene expression between two purple eggplant lines with different color intensity. Dynamic changes in transcription factors may be responsible for the variation in fruit pigment accumulation between the two lines.

CmNAC73 Mediates the Formation of Green Color in Chrysanthemum Flowers by Directly Activating the Expression of Chlorophyll Biosynthesis Genes HEMA1 and CRD1

Jing Luo et al.

Summary: This study identified a novel NAC family transcription factor, CmNAC73, which is highly correlated to chlorophyll accumulation in the outer whorl of ray florets in chrysanthemum with green flowers. Transient overexpression experiments and transactivation assays confirmed that CmNAC73 acts as a positive regulator of chlorophyll biosynthesis. Furthermore, binding assays showed that CmNAC73 directly binds to the promoters of chlorophyll synthesis-related genes HEMA1 and CRD1.

Whole-transcriptome analysis of differentially expressed genes in the mutant and normal capitula of Chrysanthemum morifolium

Hua Liu et al.

Summary: The molecular mechanism controlling the development of chrysanthemum floral colors and shapes remains unclear. Differential gene expression analysis revealed that the mutation in the chrysanthemum variety may be related to anthocyanin deficiency in the mutant capitula, which replaces ray floret pistils with vegetative buds.
