Mortality and functional outcomes of fragility fractures of the pelvis by fracture type with conservative treatment: a retrospective, multicenter TRON study

This multicenter study aimed to clarify survival rates among FFP patients, compare rates by classification type, investigate hospitalization complications, and assess walking ability before and after injury. The study showed that overall survival rates for conservatively treated FFP patients were relatively good, but Type III fractures were associated with lower life expectancy and walking ability loss.

Summary: The treatment of fragility fractures of the pelvis (FFP) is challenging and lacks a structured treatment algorithm. This study evaluated the outcome of elderly patients with FFP who were treated based on a classification and therapeutic algorithm. The results showed that strict adherence to the treatment algorithm, including operative treatment, led to significantly lower mortality rates within one year compared to conservative treatment. Patients who refused operative stabilization had the worst outcomes and highest mortality rates.
