Optimization of vegetable waste composting and the exploration of microbial mechanisms related to fungal communities during composting

Summary: This study investigated the effects of adding pig manure and microbial agents on the performance and product quality of laboratory-scale composting of vegetable waste, and analyzed the succession of the microbial community during composting. The results showed that the addition of pig manure and microbial agents accelerated composting, enhanced organic carbon degradation, and promoted compost maturation. The addition of these additives also increased enzyme activity, reshaped the microbial community, and reduced the relative abundance of potential animal and plant pathogens. Specific microbial taxa were enriched in different stages of composting and played important roles in compost maturation.

Effect of C/N ration on disposal of pig carcass by co-composting with swine manure: experiment at laboratory scale

Summary: This study evaluated the impact of different carbon to nitrogen ratios on composting pig carcasses, finding that a ratio of 20:1 led to a longer thermophilic phase and higher temperatures, resulting in a successful composting process. The organic fertilizer produced with a ratio of 20:1 showed significant improvement in the growth of Cayenne pepper compared to chemical fertilizer. Overall, utilizing a lower carbon to nitrogen ratio can achieve similar degradation rates and produce mature and stable organic fertilizer in the co-composting of pig carcasses with swine manure.
