An additive manufacturing-based 3D printed poly e-caprolactone/alginate sulfate/extracellular matrix construct for nasal cartilage regeneration

Pariya Zare et al.

Summary: This study used fused deposition modeling method to fabricate a poly e-caprolactone (PCL) scaffold, and filled it with Alginate (Alg): Alginate-Sulfate (Alg-Sul) hydrogel to create a biomimetic environment and mimic the structure of glycosaminoglycans. Different concentrations of decellularized extracellular matrix (dECM) were added to enhance chondrogenesis. Cellular analyses showed that the scaffold with 1% dECM exhibited better viscosity, cell viability, and proliferation. Mechanical characterization and chondrogenic differentiation tests demonstrated that the optimized scaffold (1% dECM) had similar mechanical properties to native nasal cartilage tissue and appropriate biochemical features.

High throughput direct 3D bioprinting in multiwell plates

Henry H. Hwang et al.

Summary: The study introduces an integrated 3D bioprinting platform based on microscale continuous optical printing technology, capable of high throughput fabrication of complex 3D biomedical samples in multiwell plate formats. The platform was used to showcase constructs with varying spatial geometries, tunable mechanical properties, and reproducibility, as well as in situ fabrication of live hepatocellular carcinoma 3D tissue scaffolds and dual-tissue fabrication with different cell types. This advancement enables rapid generation of in vitro 3D tissue models for high throughput preclinical drug screening and disease modeling.

Generation of proliferating human adult hepatocytes using optimized 3D culture conditions

Sophie Rose et al.

Summary: This study described optimized 3D culture conditions for primary human hepatocytes to trigger two waves of proliferation, with matrix stiffness and cell-cell interactions identified as key factors. Proliferating cells were shown to be mature hepatocytes with high detoxication capacities. The advanced 3D model named Hepoid holds promise as a valuable tool for pharmacological and biotechnological applications by allowing simultaneous proliferation and differentiation.

Summary: This study investigated the use of a magnetically targeted cell delivery (MTCD) approach for intranasal administration of olfactory ectomesenchymal stem cells (OE-MSCs) in rat models of Parkinson's disease (PD). The results demonstrated that this novel approach enhanced the therapeutic effects of stem cells in improving motor dysfunction associated with PD.

Artificial testis: a testicular tissue extracellular matrix as a potential bio-ink for 3D printing

Zahra Bashiri et al.

Summary: The study found that decellularization of testicular tissue fragments using the NaCl buffer-Triton protocol was significantly more efficient in removing cellular debris and preserving T-ECM compounds. The 3D printed scaffold with 5% T-ECM showed uniform surface morphology and high cell attachment and cyto-biocompatibility properties for spermatogonia stem cells in vitro and in vivo.
