Rapid and sensitive detection of Staphylococcus aureus by using a long-period fiber grating immunosensor coated with egg yolk antibody

Summary: In this study, a stable, compact, label-free and sensitive long-period fiber grating (LPFG) sensor based on egg yolk antibody (IgY) was proposed for the detection of Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus). The sensor showed selectivity and sensitivity to S. aureus measurement, with a detection limit of approximately 33 CFU/ml. The proposed antibody immobilization method is simple and the detection time is fast.

Green synthesis of DyBa2Fe3O7.988/DyFeO3 nanocomposites using almond extract with dual eco-friendly applications: Photocatalytic and antibacterial activities

Summary: In this study, photocatalytical and antibacterial activities of DyBa2Fe3O7.988/DyFeO3 (Dy-Ba-Fe-O) nanocomposites were investigated as eco-friendly applications. The synthesis method chosen was ultrasound technique to ensure low energy consumption and achieve a pure product with good crystallinity. Natural almond core extract was used as a green reagent. The nanocomposite exhibited a band gap of 2.6 eV, enabling visible-light photocatalysis. Significant degradation of Rhodamin-B dye and strong antibacterial activity against Gram-negative pathogens were observed. The properties of the nanocomposite were characterized by various analyses.

The effects of various factors on the photocatalytic activity were studied, showing that increasing the amount of catalyst and decreasing the dye concentration enhanced the photocatalytic activity of the nanocomposite. The degradation activity of AR14 was higher than that of AB92, and both dyes showed higher photocatalytic degradation under UV irradiation compared to visible light.
