Summary: This study investigates the improvement of cellulase activity and ethanol production by testing different genes involved in glycosylphosphatidylinositol (GPI) biosynthesis and remodeling. The overexpression of LAS21 gene is found to significantly improve beta-glucosidase activity. The engineered strain shows enhanced ethanol yield through further optimization of the bioprocess parameters. This study provides a promising approach to improve the economic viability of second-generation ethanol production.

This study focuses on the effects of genetic modifications on ethanol tolerance in an industrial yeast strain. PcAxy43B is capable of hydrolyzing untreated cereal biomass into valuable products, making it a potential candidate for biotechnological applications.
