Effects of H3PO4 modified biochar on heavy metal mobility and resistance genes removal during swine manure composting

Summary: This study found that adding biochar and H3PO4 modified biochar during swine manure composting can effectively reduce the soluble concentration of heavy metals, decrease the total abundance of antibiotic resistance genes and heavy metals resistance genes, and this reduction is related to changes in the bacterial community.

The relationship between material transformation, microbial community and amino acids and alkaloid metabolites in the mushroom residue-prickly ash seed oil meal composting with biocontrol agent addition

Summary: This study investigated the effects of adding biocontrol microbes on metabolites and pathogenic microorganisms during mushroom residue composting. The results showed that adding Bacillus subtilis and Trichoderma harzianum promoted the conversion of organic carbon and nitrogen. The treatments with these microbes increased the levels of amino acids, carbohydrates, and bacteriostatic alkaloid metabolites. The increased bacterial abundance was closely related to the increase in amino acid and alkaloid metabolites after biocontrol agent treatments.

The evaluation of the prepared compost revealed that it was safe, beneficial for soil fertility, and could be used as a phosphatic biofertilizer. This study encourages the use of PSB-rich compost to improve and sustain soil fertility.

Appropriate Soil Heat Treatment Promotes Growth and Disease Suppression of Panax notoginseng by Interfering with the Bacterial Community

Summary: In our greenhouse experiment, soil heat treatment at different temperatures (50, 80, and 121 degrees C) was found to significantly enhance the growth and disease suppression of Panax notoginseng in consecutively cultivated soil (CCS) samples. The 80 degrees C heat treatment was particularly effective, leading to changes in the microbial diversity of the soil and substantial inhibition of culturable microorganisms. Furthermore, the study revealed the presence of heat-tolerant bacteria even after the heat treatment.

Canonical correspondence analysis indicated that thermal pretreatment shifted the main factor affecting bacterial community evolution from dissolved organic carbon in traditional composting to temperature in thermal pretreatment composting.

It was demonstrated that the main antifungal activity and biocontrol activity of Streptomyces albidoflavus strain W68 are due to the production of candicidin isomers, suggesting that gene clusters for candicidin-like compound biosynthesis could be used as molecular markers for screening and breeding microbial strains for biocontrol agent development.
