Chemometric optimisation of enzymatic hydrolysis of beechwood xylan to target desired xylooligosaccharides

Gloria L. Diaz-Arenas et al.

Summary: This study utilized chemometrics to develop a comprehensive computational modeling set to predict the parameters maximizing the generation of desired xylooligosaccharides (XOS) during enzymatic hydrolysis. The accuracy of the models was validated using high-performance anion-exchange chromatography coupled with triple-quadrupole mass spectrometry (HPAEC-QqQ-MS) to identify 22 XOS within beechwood xylan hydrolysates. The results demonstrated the effectiveness of the developed models in predicting the parameters for maximizing the production of desired XOS.

Optimization of binary acids pretreatment of corncob biomass for enhanced recovery of cellulose to produce bioethanol

P. Selvakumar et al.

Summary: This study demonstrated that chemical pretreatment with binary acids effectively removed lignin and hemicellulose from corncob biomass, leading to increased cellulose recovery and substrate porosity. Ethanol fermentation of the hydrolysates resulted in a high bioethanol concentration. Therefore, the binary acids pretreatment can be considered as an alternative approach for lignocellulosic biomass pretreatment.

Production of xylo-oligosaccharides and ethanol from corncob by combined tartaric acid hydrolysis with simultaneous saccharification and fermentation

Peiyao Wen et al.

Summary: In this study, tartaric acid was used for the hydrolysis of corncob to produce xylo-oligosaccharides (XOS), and then the hydrolyzed corncob was used for ethanol production. The results showed high yields of XOS and ethanol under the appropriate conditions of hydrolysis and fermentation. This research provides a relatively safe, simple, and efficient technology for producing XOS and ethanol from corncob.

Corncob-based biorefinery: A comprehensive review of pretreatment methodologies, and biorefinery platforms

Pradeep Kumar Gandam et al.

Summary: The richness of xylan and the lower levels of extractives and ash in corncob lignocellulose make it an excellent source for biorefinery products. The unique packing of lignocellulose material in corncob makes it susceptible to different pretreatment approaches. By pretreating corncob, high levels of delignification, hemicellulose solubilization, and cellulose recovery can be achieved.
