Anti-inflammatory constituents in the root and rhizome of Polygonum cuspidatum by UPLC-PDA-QTOF/MS and lipopolysaccharide-activated RAW264.7 macrophages

Meng Yu et al.

Summary: The root and rhizome of Polygonum cuspidatum (Hu-Zhang) is used for the treatment of inflammatory disorders in China. In a study, it was found that certain fractions from the extract of Hu-Zhang could inhibit NO production, with specific constituents showing potent anti-inflammatory activity. The major contribution to the anti-inflammatory effect of Hu-Zhang is attributed to certain constituents, particularly polydatin, resveratrol, and emodin compounds.
