Impact of contact inhibition on collective cell migration and proliferation

H. P. Jain et al.

Summary: This study investigates the limitations of cell migration and proliferation in cell colonies due to contact inhibition. A multiphase field model is used to analyze the growth dynamics of a cell colony consisting of proliferating cells, taking into account the mechanism of contact inhibition of proliferation through local mechanical interactions. By comparing nonmigrating and migrating cells, the study provides a quantitative characterization of the dynamics and analyzes the velocity of the colony boundary in both cases. Additionally, the study examines single cell velocities, the distribution of neighboring cells, and the influence of stress and age on cell positions and their relationships with each other.

Using Wet Electrospun PCL/Gelatin/CNT Yarns to Fabricate Textile-Based Scaffolds for Vascular Tissue Engineering

Chen Jiang et al.

Summary: The study introduces a novel method of fabricating polymer/CNT composite yarns by electrospinning polycaprolactone/gelatin into a bath of CNT dispersion. These yarns exhibit good biocompatibility within a certain concentration range in the bath, guiding cell elongation and alignment, and knitting the yarns into a textile fabric for scaffold construction shows promising mechanical properties and supports cell proliferation. This work provides a novel approach to incorporate CNTs or other functional materials into biopolymers for tissue engineering applications.

Hyaluronic Acid/Collagen Nanofiber Tubular Scaffolds Support Endothelial Cell Proliferation, Phenotypic Shape and Endothelialization

Yuqing Niu et al.

Summary: In this study, artificial vascular scaffolds based on collagen nanofibers functionalized with hyaluronic acid were designed to direct the shape, proliferation, and endothelization of mouse primary aortic endothelial cells. The HA/collagen nanofibers showed higher anisotropic wettability and mechanical flexibility compared to pure collagen nanofibers, promoting elongation, proliferation, and phenotypic expression of the cells. In vitro co-culture experiments demonstrated that luminal endothelialization plays a key role in maintaining biophysical integrity and structural remodeling of the cells, while hemocompatibility assays suggested potential for these engineered vascular implants.
