Poly(ester-anhydrides) with controlled molecular weight and structure

Radhakanta Ghosh et al.

Summary: This study reports a new method for synthesizing poly(ester-anhydride) by stepwise addition of hydroxyalkanoic acids molecules into melted dicarboxylic acids. The synthesis of well-defined ester monomers was achieved, followed by activation using variable amounts of acetic anhydride and melt condensation polymerization. The molecular weight of the synthesized poly(ester-anhydride) is highly controllable depending on the degree of activation of the ester monomers and the amount of acetic anhydride.

Summary: Seasonal influenza A virus infections cause significant damage to health and economic resources each year. The current vaccines provide inadequate protection and require annual reformulation. This study explores the use of a recombinant equine H3N8 hemagglutinin trimer as a potential vaccine antigen, combined with nanoadjuvants, to develop a universal influenza A virus nanovaccine.

Summary: This paper describes the preparation and characterization of polymer-drug systems based on polymeric microspheres obtained from poly(betulin disuccinate-co-sebacic acid). The microspheres showed suitable shape and color, with encapsulation efficacy and drug loading depending on the ratio of the drug and the size of the microspheres. The concentration of the drug in the microspheres was enough to exhibit bactericidal effects against bacteria.

Synthesis of Aliphatic Polyanhydrides with Controllable and Reproducible Molecular Weight

Radhakanta Ghosh et al.

Summary: Polyanhydrides are synthesized by melt-polycondensation of diacid monomers and excess acetic anhydride to form stable polymers with controlled molecular weight. The synthesized aliphatic polyanhydrides have controllable molecular weight and low polydispersity, making them suitable for potential use as drug carriers. In vitro drug release studies show promising results for poly(sebacic acid) as a candidate for controlled drug delivery applications.
